Vegan “Steak”

Ingredients

  • ½ cup soy cubes soaked in hot water and squeezed out You can find soy cubes at any oriental store
  • ½ cup black beans
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp of red beet juice 
  • ½ tsp powder
  • ½ tsp Pimenton
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp coriander powder 
  • ¼ tsp dried thyme
  • ¼ tsp chili powder optional
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • oil for frying the plantain and “meat”

Instructions

  • Pour boiling water over the soy cubes. Let them sit for 10 minutes so they can expand. Then squeeze out the excess water and cut them into fine chunks.
  • Smash the beans and add the spices, beet juice, flour and chopped soy cubes. Mix well with your hands and form it into a “steak” or oval burger.
  • Heat up about 1 tbsp of oil in a pan and cook the “steak” until both sides are brown, and the inside is warm (you can test this with a knife or steal skewer). This takes about 5-8 minutes on medium heat.
  • When the “steak” is cooked, place it on some kitchen towel paper. Then cut it into strips and add it to your Jibarito Sandwich, in wraps, your rice bowl or have it with potatoes.TIPS:- Make a more rustic shape to emulate a steak.- Turn them into burgers or meatballs for your pasta.If you make my recipes, please tag me in them and use #thespicedchickpearecipes.
